Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure to participate to DASIA in Malta.

There was most of the European actors of the Space Industry, and (not so) suprisingly lot of participants from Toulouse .

I presented OPEES, the “Open Platform for the Engineering of Embedded Systems” in the track chaired by Paul Arberet from CNES:

It was an opportunity to present this new type of Open Source organization, the 4th one (see slide 12). These consortia like OPEES for embedded software for critical systems of Genivi for the Automotive industry mainly focus on Industrial Users needs and see Open Source as an enabler to create sustainable software ecosystems.

That’s good news that Open Source now gathers interest from companies for which Software is not the main asset. Indeed, even if planes, satellites or cars embed more and more software, the results is not just a web site or a piece of software to download. Even in this case, Open Source offers many interests like the capability to clarify the Intellectual Property and the condition of reuse of the software.

At DASIA, I also presented how to use Obeo Designer in order to support multiple point of views in the System Engineering in addition to the standards SysML and UML editors provided in Topcased. I’ll go into more details about this topic later as we are preparing a white paper on the topic with my co-workers Frédéric Thomas and Gonzague Reydet.

Today is my last day at Petals Link.
This journey started almost six years ago with my partner Bertrand Escudié and has been the most intense period of my career so far.
Looking back on this period I have to humbly admit I am very proud of what we achieved in several ways – our technical achievements in SOA, our R&D achievements in European and French research projects, our entrepreneurial success but also our impact and influence on the adoption of open source solutions by industry leading companies across Europe and beyond.
This journey was not something we did alone – I would like to thank the team at Petals Link, all of our partners, and especially the OW2 community who helped us achieve this success.
As for my next move… I’m joining Obeo, the Model Driven Company and leading contributor of Eclipse modeling projects like Acceleo. In my new role at Obeo I’ll be focusing on the tooling for development of embedded/critical systems modeling platforms.
I am very excited about this new adventure that builds upon the experiences I’ve had working with Petals Link and the open source community. If you’re attending OWF later this month, lets meet up! I’ll be delighted to share my enthusiasm for Obeo’s market opportunity and product strategy.

A very good idea to go ahead and avoid endless meetings.

To be tested.

PS: since 2005, I switched from printing on paper to instapaper and delicious.[/en]

Ca me semble une très bonne idée pour faire avancer certaines réunions.

A tester d’urgence!
